Intimate Terms
Theodora Allen 4 Sep - 22 Oct 2025 STANCE is pleased to present Intimate Terms, the Swedish debut of Los Angeles–based artist Theodora Allen. Over the past decade, Allen has developed a distinct visual lexicon, deeply attuned to the symbolic power of images and their archetypal cycles of return, transformation, and persistence. The works in Intimate Terms present a suite of recent paintings that reflect the artist’s sustained engagement with a process-based method of painting that has developed into a defining and generative part of her painting practice—a strategy for merging image and surface, subject and action. At the core of each painting is an object or life form caught in a state of transformation, either undergoing change or suspended in the act of becoming. Revealing shared emotional truths while resonating with the ecological and social urgencies of our time, the paintings invite the viewer to bring their own meanings, memories, and cultural references. Within this ambiguity lies an invitation to engage with the mystery of creation itself, hinting at the possibility that our minds and the cosmos are more connected than we assume. Read more -
Laure Prouvost x Carlotta Bailly-Borg
Laure Prouvost, Carlotta Bailly-Borg 13 May - 19 Jun 2025 Arbitrary communication, illogical sequences, and subconsciously derived amalgamations weave the fabric of a dream—an absurd, intimate domain beyond the bounds of reality. In Laure Prouvost x Carlotta Bailly-Borg, a fluid transition between perception, association, and memory links the works of two Brussels-based artists. Rendered in nocturnal hues, Bailly-Borg’s paintings depict bodies that bend and intertwine, floating in abstract compositions that defy anatomy and gravity. Prouvost’s resin-encased relics explore memory and ephemerality, turning fleeting moments into physical keepsakes. Both artists dissolve the boundaries of reason, offering portals into surreal states of experience. Rounding out the gallery’s program before the summer break, the exhibition’s oscillation between reality and reverie, illusion and materiality, evokes the delicate transience of a midsummer’s night. Meet me when the shadows are longest
Aneta Kajzer 13 Feb - 20 Mar 2025 In Meet Me When the Shadows Are Longest, the Berlin-based artist Aneta Kajzer presents an enigmatic new body of paintings that fluidly slip between abstraction and figuration. Rendered in bold layers of luminous color, Kajzer’s paintings arise through an intuitive process in which she works the canvas from all possible angles, beginning with brush strokes, streaks, and drips that gradually give shape to an evocative image-world. This dynamic, spontaneous approach embraces chance while maintaining a conscious, embodied structure—a sentiment that is mirrored in the exhibition’s title, which evokes an encounter in time attuned to the rhythms of the body, the power of the imagination, and the whims of nature. Cave Canem
John Fou 12 Dec 2024 - 30 Jan 2025 John Fou’s characters do not belong to this world; they are otherworldly figures, and his paintings resemble prophetic narratives, recalling the mystical treatises of William Blake. He delights in exploring morphological freedom through scenes of monster persecution—these marginalized beings, rejected by society, that Claude-Claire Kappler describes as figures expelled with...
